Basketball Game Preview: Highland Rams vs. Summit Academy Bears

The Highland Rams are taking a road trip to square off against the Summit Academy Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Highland is looking for their season's first victory.

Highland is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Bonneville on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Highland had to suffer through a 39-12 loss at the hands of Bonneville. The matchup marked the Rams' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Kennedy Gurgel was Highland's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Meanwhile, Summit Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 59-25 defeat at the hands of Weber. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Warriors are ranked tenth).

Highland will have to keep a close watch on Reagan Morgan and Sydney Orme, a pair of players who had a big impact on Summit Academy's prior game. Morgan posted seven points and three steals, while Orme put up eight points and five rebounds. That's the most points Morgan has posted since back in December of 2023.

Summit Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Highland beat Summit Academy 38-26 when the teams last played back in December of 2017. The rematch might be a little tougher for Highland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
