Basketball Recap: Kirby's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Tuesday

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Kirby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past the Melrose Golden Wildcats with a 65-59 win. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Golden Wildcats are ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kirby is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Melrose, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Coincidentally, Kirby and Melrose will both be playing Power Center Academy the next time they take the court. Kirby will head out to face Power Center Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Melrose will host them at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
