Softball Recap: Dublin Scioto Takes Down Licking Heights in a Playoff Battle

Dublin Scioto had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past the Licking Heights Hornets 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Irish have posted since April 24, 2024.

Avery Reynolds made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Gina Wasko was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Abbi Clark was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Dublin Scioto and bumps their season record up to 17-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Licking Heights, they moved to 15-12 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Dublin Scioto will take on Teays Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Irish 3.6, the Vikings 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Licking Heights does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
