California has gone a perfect 3-0 against Liberty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Grizzlies will take on the Lions in a tournament on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as California comes in on four and Liberty on three.
California barely beat Foothill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 10-2 victory on Thursday. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Audrey Cotton looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, California got a big performance out of Jayda Crosby, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Stiner, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Liberty got themselves on the board against Dublin on Saturday, but Dublin never followed suit. They blew past the Gaels 8-0. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
The result came thanks to Kate Skinner's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Liberty let Taylor Jennings and Isabella Rice run wild. Jennings went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Rice went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Jennings has posted since back in May of 2024. Savannah Page was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Liberty lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dublin didn't launched any home runs.
Liberty pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for California, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
California beat Liberty 6-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
