Softball Recap: Mount Union Trojans vs. Southern Huntingdon County Rockets
Mount Union fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Southern Huntingdon County on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 5-4. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Ke' Andra Wible was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 9.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off 13 hits. Wible was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Wible wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Payton Williams, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases. Haley Atherton also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
This is the second loss in a row for Mount Union and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Southern Huntingdon County, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Coming up, Mount Union will venture away from home to face off against West Branch at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southern Huntingdon County, they will host Moshannon Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
