Football Recap: Ellison Skates Past Rudder with Ease

Ellison won the last time they faced Rudder and things went their way on Friday too. The Eagles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Rangers 59-13. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Rangers are ranked 778th).

Ellison found their leader in sophomore Marlyn Smith, who threw for 513 yards and seven TDs while picking up 14.3 yards per attempt, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Those 513 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Smith. Kae'Andre Sayles was Smith's top target, picking up 212 receiving yards and three scores.

Ellison didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Rudder to a completion percentage of just 46.9%. The team can thank Mbaye Ndoye for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Ellison; they were averaging 59.9%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 59.9%.

Ellison didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Zayondre Crable, Diondre Bell, and Ndoye picked up one apiece.

Ellison's record is now 4-5. As for Rudder, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Ellison will square off against University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests. As for Rudder, they will face off against Waco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 43.22 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
