Basketball Game Preview: Picayune Maroon Tide vs. Harrison Central Red Rebels

Having just played yesterday, the Picayune Maroon Tide will jump right back in to play the Harrison Central Red Rebels at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Picayune is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Picayune is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since February 23rd on Friday. They fell just short of Long Beach by a score of 44-42. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Maroon Tide came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Bearcats are ranked 201st).

Meanwhile, Harrison Central didn't have quite enough to beat St. Martin on Friday and fell 45-43. The Red Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Picayune will need focus on slowing down Jordon Beard, one of several Harrison Central players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Hayden Boggs, who had seven points and eight rebounds.

Harrison Central's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-7. As for Picayune, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Picayune couldn't quite finish off Harrison Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 and fell 65-62. Thankfully for Picayune, Aujaylen Barron (who went 11 of 21 on his way to 34 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
