Basketball Recap: Deighton Herl's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wheatland-Grinnell over Rawlins County

Wheatland-Grinnell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 39-33 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rawlins County Buffaloes. The Thunderhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buffaloes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Wheatland-Grinnell lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Deighton Herl, who posted six points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Herl a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jackson Foster, who had eight points.

Among those leading the charge was Tru Dewey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 19 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominique Paz, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

Wheatland-Grinnell's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Rawlins County, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Wheatland-Grinnell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-38 victory against Pawnee Heights on the 14th. As for Rawlins County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-42 loss against Oakley on the 14th.
