Softball Recap: Maconaquah Comes Up Short

Maconaquah had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Lewis Cass Kings, falling 12-1. The Braves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Kings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Maconaquah saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shaela Brazzel, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Lewis Cass, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

On Lewis Cass' side, Ruth (Amma) Fitzhugh spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Fitzhugh has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lewis Cass let Hannah Penn and Shay Dishner run wild. Penn went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Dishner went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those three runs gave Penn a new career-high. Alisha Toops was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Maconaquah will square off against rival Rochester at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lewis Cass is set to challenge their familiar foe Southwood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
