Softball Recap: Velva/Drake/Anamoose Wins Going Away Against Wilton/Wing

Velva/Drake/Anamoose won the last time they faced Wilton/Wing and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Aggies blew past the Miners 11-3. Considering the Aggies have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Grace Balas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Quincy Bruner was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kinley Peterson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Velva/Drake/Anamoose's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilton/Wing, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Velva/Drake/Anamoose will host Central McLean [Turtle Lake-Mercer/Underwood/McClusky] at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wilton/Wing, they will square off against Larimore at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
