Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ali Yarnell and Taylor Phillips Lead Caprock Academy to Victory

Caprock Academy came into Saturday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 37-24 victory over the Vail Christian Saints on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Caprock Academy to victory were Taylor Phillips and Ali Yarnell. Phillips posted nine points along with eight boards and six steals, while Yarnell scored seven points and eight rebounds. Yarnell has become a key player for Caprock Academy: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least eight boards, but 4-15 otherwise.

When it comes to explaining why Vail Christian lost, don't look at Lia Nowicki. Despite the final result, she put up six points. Nowicki continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Caprock Academy's record is now 6-16. As for Vail Christian, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-11.

Coming up, Caprock Academy will square off against Lake County at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Vail Christian, they will challenge Lotus School For Excellence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
