Football Game Preview: Red Hook Raiders vs. Rondout Valley Ganders

Red Hook and Rondout Valley are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Ganders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Red Hook will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

Red Hook's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They breezed past Liberty to the tune of 54-0. That 54 point margin sets a new team best for the Raiders this season.

Nathan Clum was his usual excellent self, throwing for 213 yards and four TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Red Hook's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Red Hook was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Red Hook's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Trevor Shackelton, Jordan Bennett, and Hudson Slattery, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Rondout Valley was beaten by Marlboro Central 42-8 on Friday. The Ganders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Red Hook's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Rondout Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Red Hook might still be hurting after the 46-22 defeat they got from Rondout Valley in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Thankfully for the Raiders, Michael Cathcart (who rushed for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 174 yards and three TDs) won't be suiting up this time.
