Maryville Christian suffers eighth straight loss on the road

The Maryville Christian Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Southwestern by a score of 39-36.

Southwestern found their leader in underclassman Vivian Zurheide, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Zurheide is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last nine games she's played. Samantha Stormer was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Maryville Christian's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-17. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.8 points per game. As for Southwestern, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maryville Christian will take on Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Christ Our Rock Lutheran is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for Southwestern, they will head out on the road to take on Calhoun/Brussels at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Calhoun/Brussels presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southwestern in Illinois (Calhoun/Brussels is ranked 128th, while Southwestern is ranked 488th).
