Oak Mountain Academy and Flint River Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Oak Mountain Academy Warriors will take on the Flint River Academy Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Oak Mountain Academy is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Last Monday, Oak Mountain Academy took a blow against St. George's, falling 57-27. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite their defeat, Oak Mountain Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Leonardo Massi, who posted seven points, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Flint River Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 62-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of LaGrange Academy.
Like Oak Mountain Academy, Flint River Academy lost despite seeing results from several players. D. J. Baums led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. Ethan Newman was another key player, putting up 14 points and eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Flint River Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Oak Mountain Academy's record now sits at 1-7. As for Flint River Academy, their record now sits at 5-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Oak Mountain Academy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 37 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Flint River Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 40.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Oak Mountain Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Flint River Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 47-43 victory.
