Basketball Recap: Sierra Vista Mountain Lions vs. Mojave Rattlers
Sierra Vista has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 75-70 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mojave Rattlers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (65), the Mountain Lions still had to take the loss.

Defeat or not, Sierra Vista got some senior leadership from Jevon Yapi and Colton Knoll. Yapi went 12 of 25 to rack up 30 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards, while Knoll went 8 for 10 on his way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Yapi's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of EJ Dacuma, who posted 12 points.
Mojave's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but C.J. Shaw led the charge by going 9 of 16 en route to 22 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. Shaw has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last ten times he's played. Zacarrion Jackson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Sierra Vista's loss dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Mojave, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-9.
Looking ahead, Sierra Vista will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Valley at 6:30 p.m. Sierra Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 games -- so hopefully Valley likes a good challenge. As for Mojave, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 78-46 win against Spring Valley on the 7th.
