Preview: Jefferson Academy Jaguars vs. Valley Vikings
The Jefferson Academy Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Valley Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Jefferson Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Jefferson Academy was fully in charge, breezing past Jefferson 51-23 on the road. The win was just what Jefferson Academy needed coming off of a 51-5 defeat in their prior match.
Among those leading the charge was Elsa Nygren, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 8 steals. Sofia Pathak was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 8 steals.
Meanwhile, Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Prairie View by a score of 28-25.
Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nevaeh Jimenez, who scored 4 points along with 11 rebounds, and Peyton Savolt who scored 12 points. The contest was Savolt's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Jefferson Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Jefferson Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Valley struggles in that department as they've been even better at 31 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Everything went Jefferson Academy's way against Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as Jefferson Academy made off with a 54-30 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
