Softball Game Preview: Muir Mustangs vs. Grand Terrace Titans

The Muir Mustangs will face off against the Grand Terrace Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Muir 2.8, Grand Terrace 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Grand Terrace will be up against a hot Muir team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Muir was the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over La Canada on Monday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.

Gianna (GiGi) Butler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail (Abi) Milton, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Jazmin Jaquez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Muir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Grand Terrace came up short against La Habra back in February and fell 6-3. The loss continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Highlanders: they've now lost three in a row.

Muir pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grand Terrace, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
