Basketball Recap: Emanuel County Institute Takes a Loss

Emanuel County Institute was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 34-26 defeat to the Portal Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 36-35 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portal to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alyssa King, who posted eight points and six boards. Another player making a difference was London Blackmon, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Emanuel County Institute's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Portal, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Emanuel County Institute will square off against Savannah at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Portal, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Portal Panthers challenge the Metter Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
