Baseball Recap: Woodmore Gets the Win

Woodmore took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against New Riegel, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats won by a run and slipped past the Blue Jackets 2-1. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 17-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Calvin Lipstraw made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other pitching news, Keil Almroth looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Lipstraw wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Michael Seeger, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Woodmore's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for New Riegel, their record now sits at 4-6.

Looking ahead, Woodmore will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Lakota at 5:00 p.m. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for New Riegel, they will square off against St. Mary Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Blue Jackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
