Baseball Game Preview: Samuell Spartans vs. Adams Cougars

For the second straight game, Samuell will face off against Adams. The Spartans will square off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Samuell has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with seven straight losses, while Adams will come in with nine straight victories.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Samuell's offense. They came up short against Adams on Tuesday, falling 23-0.

For Adams' part, Jay Ortiz and Diego Wong made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Ortiz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wong struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Ortiz posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Ortiz scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Wong went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Wong has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justino Chavarria, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Adams: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Michael Ortiz, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Adams pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Samuell, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
