Baseball Recap: Franklin County Beats Lawrence County for Their Third Straight Win

Franklin County took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Lawrence County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels skirted past the Wildcats 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Rebels as they're now sitting on three straight.

Robert (Gus) Gardner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Franklin County is 4-2 when Gardner allows two or fewer earned runs, but 7-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Franklin County's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gavin McBee, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Franklin County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-15. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Lawrence County, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-13.

Franklin County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
