Softball Game Preview: Glendale Cardinals vs. Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles

The Glendale Cardinals will be taking part in a tournament against the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Glendale took on South Mountain on Thursday. Glendale came out on top against South Mountain by a score of 10-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their two-run performance the game before.

Ariana Camacho and Unique Medina did most of the damage at the plate: Camacho scored three runs while going 1-for-4, while Medina scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Medina has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tzintzuni Hernandez Garcia, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Bourgade Catholic sidestepped Chino Valley for a 3-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won six in a row.

Olivia Durazo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Esther Quezada, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Bourgade Catholic's record now sits at 2-0. As for Glendale, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Glendale suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Bourgade Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2016. Can Glendale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
