Football Recap: Cypress Falls Despite Big Games from Ian Do and Bryson Busbee

While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Cypress was not quite West's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 33-28 to the Warriors. The Centurions gained 102 more yards on the day, but it was the Warriors that made the best use of them.

Bryson Busbee and Ian Do certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Busbee rushed for 180 yards and one TD while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, while Do gained 72 total yards and three touchdowns.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Alijah Ashcraft for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cypress didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dominic Golia, who threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns. What's more, Golia racked up 124.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Blake Ely helped Golia out on the ground, picking up 111 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

This is the second loss in a row for Cypress and nudges their season record down to 3-2. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.35 yards per carry in those games compared to only 3.2 in the others. As for West, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cypress will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tustin at 7:00 p.m. on October 2. The match will give the Centurions their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for West, they will be playing at home against South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
