AA Region III recap October 22, 2013
Fairfield Central added to the longest winning streak in AA Region III this week by beating Keenan, 38-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Griffins.
The Raiders lost to Fairfield Central 38-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Demetrius Davis' team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. DeAndre Belton threw for 149 and 1 touchdown and Tyren White had 41 yards receiving. On the ground Larry G. Bell contributed 169 yards. Kewaun Squirewell helped Fairfield Central's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 40 yards.
Belton put up the best numbers in passing as the Griffins topped Keenan. Belton's favorite target this week was White, who caught 2 passes for 41 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Fairfield Central's Belton and Squirewell have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Belton has thrown for 1,172 yards this season, while Squirewell has 22 catches for 394 yards. Peter Easaw from Quin McCollum's team leads the league in rushing with 680 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Fairfield Central takes on second place Pelion. The Griffins bested the Raiders last week, while Pelion beat Columbia.
The Panthers made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,516 from 8,159. The improvement was the result of a 39-15 victory over the Capitals last week.
