Preview: Governor's Academy Governors vs. Thayer Academy Tigers
The Governor's Academy Governors will head out on the road to face off against the Thayer Academy Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Governor's Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Thayer Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Saturday, Governor's Academy got themselves on the board against Middlesex, but Middlesex never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the 43-0 at home. Given Governor's Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Middlesex is ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Thayer Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. Their rough 34-12 loss to Belmont Hill might stick with them for a while.
Thayer Academy's loss came about despite a quality game from Arnaud Dugas, who threw for 194 yards and a touchdown.
Governor's Academy's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Thayer Academy, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-4.
Everything came up roses for Governor's Academy against Thayer Academy in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 36-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Governor's Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
