Basketball Recap: Atlantic Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Atlantic won the last time they faced Monsignor Pace and things went their way on Friday too. The Atlantic Eagles secured an 88-82 W over the Monsignor Pace Spartans. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Spartans are ranked 503rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for James Tillman, who went 9 for 14 en route to 26 points. Another player making a difference was Kenny James, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points.

Monsignor Pace's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Gelin, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Vico, who went 6 for 15 en route to 17 points along with six boards and five steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Atlantic and bumps their season record up to 13-9. As for Monsignor Pace, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-20.

Atlantic will take on Dr. Joaquin Garcia at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dr. Joaquin Garcia has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Monsignor Pace, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-45 win against Hialeah-Miami Lakes on the 1st.
