Baseball Game Preview: Mifflin Punchers vs. Northland Vikings

The Mifflin Punchers will take on the Northland Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Mifflin is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Linden-McKinley a 15-0 shutout. The Punchers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Francis Awuah, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Northland made sure to put some runs up on the board against Columbus International on Friday. Northland blew past Columbus International 16-4.

Jarrod Singleton Jr made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 15 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Singleton Jr was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Cameron Wilson and Dana Byrd did most of the damage at the plate: Wilson scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Byrd scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Wilson has posted since back in April of 2024. Jordan Singleton was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Everything went Mifflin's way against Northland in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Mifflin made off with a 13-3 win. Does Mifflin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
