The calendar just turned to 2009, but Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps has already been invited to an All-Star game…in 2010.

Heaps, the top-rated junior quarterback in the nation, has not lost in two years as starting QB of the nationally-ranked Spartans, who have won back-to-back state titles.

Heaps was among the first 10 selections for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl next January. He's the only quarterback selected so far.

Heaps was at this year's All-American bowl and was part of a national combine. Garfield lineman Deandre Coleman, who has committed to California, was the only state player at the game.

Heaps (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) passed for 2,888 yards and 38 touchdowns last season. He told the Seattle Times last month he has offers from 18 colleges, including Florida and USC.

Basketball: Wroten Finally Cleared to Play

Garfield point guard Tony Wroten, the nation's top-ranked sophomore according to ESPN, was finally allowed to play for the Bulldogs, and it paid off as they beat Duncanville of Texas 57-56 at the T-Mobile Invitational in Muncie, Ind.

It was the first time Wroten has played this season. Garfield expelled him saying he lives in Renton instead of Seattle. His family filed an injunction to get him back in school until his case can be heard in court.

Wroten missed the first game of the T-Mobile Invite because he had not re-enrolled at Garfield. He found out a half hour before the game he was finally eligible. Earlier in the day, the King County judge who issued the injuction said in an emergency hearing that Wroten was allowed to play.

He scored 19 points and had eight rebounds, six assists, six steals and three blocks against Duncanville, who was ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason by MaxPreps.

Enumclaw upset No. 5 Mount Rainier in the championship game of the Les Schwab/BCC Christmas Classic 60-57.

Jarrell Banks led Mount Rainier with a game-high 27 points.

Federal Way, which began the season ranked No. 1 in the 4A, beat Estrella Foothills of Arizona 84-50 to win their division in the Arizona Basketball Challenge in Mesa, Ariz.

Basketball: Best of Oregon, Washington Split

The best of Oregon came north to battle some of the best teams from Washington at the Auburn Riverside Invitational.

Each state won five of the 10 games.

In the final day, Beaverton, the four-time Class 6A champs from Oregon, beat Snohomish 48-42, the first loss of the three-day spectacle for the Panthers.

The host Ravens, who won the last two Class 3A state titles, lost two of their three games.

ALSO: Kennedy, the No. 1 Class 3A team, beat Issaquah, No. 9 in the 4A, 58-52 in the title game of the Les Schwab/BCC Christmas Classic.
