Basketball Recap: Smithfield Comes Up Short

Smithfield lost against Bishop Hendricken back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Smithfield Sentinels came up short against the Bishop Hendricken Hawks, falling 65-45. While losing is never fun, the Sentinels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Hawks are ranked third).

Smithfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Bishop Hendricken, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield will square off against Portsmouth at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bishop Hendricken, they will face off against Cranston East at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop Hendricken knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Cranston East likes a good challenge.
