Greenwich and Darien squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Greenwich had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Darien Blue Wave by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture two weeks ago.

Greenwich took Darien into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 15-11.

Even though they lost, Greenwich was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October.

Darien found their leader in freshman Marlene Davis, who had 19 digs and two aces.

Greenwich's defeat dropped their record down to 23-3. As for Darien, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-2.

Greenwich does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Darien, they will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Glastonbury at 6:00 p.m. Glastonbury will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Darien surely won't give up without a fight.
