Preview: Calvert Cavaliers vs. Patuxent Panthers

Calvert has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Friday. They will square off against the Patuxent Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Calvert focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 38 on Wednesday.

Last Wednesday, Calvert strolled past La Plata with points to spare, taking the game 47-30. The win was just what Calvert needed coming off of a 44-15 loss in their prior contest.

Calvert's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Kidwell , who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kidwell has scored at least 25% of Calvert's points. Hannah Graham was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Patuxent, who are still winless after their fourth matchup. They suffered a tough 47-22 defeat at the hands of Northern on Wednesday.

Patuxent's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ailish Fockler, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, and Mya White who scored five points along with nine rebounds. White set a new season high mark in steals with two.

Calvert's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Patuxent, they bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Calvert have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Patuxent, though, as they've been averaging only 30.5 rebounds per game. Given Calvert's sizeable advantage in that area, Patuxent will need to find a way to close that gap.

Everything came up roses for Calvert against Patuxent when the teams last played back in February as the team secured a 65-29 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calvert since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
