Baseball Game Preview: Atlantis vs. Avon Panthers

Atlantis will face off against the Avon Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Atlantis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Atlantis turned things around against Holbrook on Wednesday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Atlantis, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

David DeSouza Jr. made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Atlantis is 4-2 when DeSouza Jr. allows two or fewer hits, but 2-5 otherwise. DeSouza Jr. was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devon Paradise, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liam DeSousa, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Atlantis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Avon won against Notre Dame Cristo Rey on Monday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Avon didn't even let Notre Dame Cristo Rey on the board, marking Avon's second-straight 5-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for Avon.

Atlantis' win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Avon, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
