Football Recap: Southlake Carroll Beats Guyer for Their 14th Straight Victory

Southlake Carroll extended their postseason success on Saturday against Guyer. They came out on top against the Guyer Wildcats by a score of 56-45. This was payback for the Dragons, who suffered a 45-21 loss the last time these two teams met.

It was another big night for Angelo Renda, who rushed for 161 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 105 yards and one touchdown. Those 161 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Glenn, who rushed for 32 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Southlake Carroll's defensive line and their 6.5 sacks. Leading the way was Jake Lucky with two. Southlake Carroll got some further help from Parker Harris: he made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception.

When it comes to explaining why Guyer lost, don't look at Kevin Sperry. Despite the final result, he rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.5 yards per attempt. Sperry has become a key player for Guyer: the team is 9-2 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mason White, who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The win keeps them at an undefeated 14-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Guyer, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-4 record.

Southlake Carroll will square off against Longview at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Southlake Carroll's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Guyer does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
