Preview: Wausau West Warriors vs. D.C. Everest Evergreens
Wausau West is 1-9 against D.C. Everest since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wausau West Warriors will head out on the road to take on the D.C. Everest Evergreens at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Wausau West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
Wausau West scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They enjoyed a cozy 87-68 victory over Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Given Wausau West's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wausau West's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Griffin Lange, who scored 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Brett Butalla, who scored 21 points along with six assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lange has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Hager, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, D.C. Everest came up short against Stevens Point on Friday and fell 59-46.
Wausau West is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for D.C. Everest, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Wausau West beat D.C. Everest 69-59 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wausau West since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
