Softball Game Preview: Red River Roughriders vs. West Fargo Packers

Red River hasn't had much luck against West Fargo recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Roughriders are taking a road trip to challenge the Packers at 6:15 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Red River beat Fargo North 7-4. The win continues a trend for the Roughriders in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won six in a row.

Jocelyn Berg was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Berg was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Red River lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.

West Fargo not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 13, 2024 (when they won 18-1). Everything went their way against Grand Forks Central as they made off with a 15-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Packers.

West Fargo now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Red River, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Red River was able to grind out a solid victory over West Fargo in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughriders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
