Baseball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Lincoln Academy Eagles

Morse has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lincoln Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Shipbuilders will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Lincoln Academy will be up against a hot Morse team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Shipbuilders came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against Brunswick.

The team relied heavily on Jackson Murray, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Colin Verrill also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Academy waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 4-3. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

AJ Giberson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Lincoln Academy is 2-1 when Giberson posts two or more runs, but 2-8-1 otherwise.

Giberson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Blake Grady, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Blake Gamage, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Morse pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln Academy, their record now sits at 4-9-1.

Morse beat Lincoln Academy 8-5 in their previous matchup on May 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Shipbuilders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
