Basketball Game Preview: Branchville Yellow Jackets vs. Wagener-Salley War Eagles

The Branchville Yellow Jackets and the Wagener-Salley War Eagles will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Branchville saw some tournament action on Thursday. They were outmatched by Orangeburg-Wilkinson and fell 63-32. The game marked the Yellow Jackets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite their loss, Branchville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kyran Glover, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Glover is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season. Javon Williams was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Branchville was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orangeburg-Wilkinson only posted four assists.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 11-11 at halftime, Wagener-Salley was not quite Pelion's equal in the second half last Wednesday. They took a 42-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The defeat continues a trend for the War Eagles in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.

Wagener-Salley's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Branchville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Branchville lost to Wagener-Salley at home by a decisive 70-55 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2018. Can Branchville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
