Gretna East falls despite big games from Talan Hovie and Drayke Brown

Recap: Gretna East Griffins vs. Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks

The Gretna East Griffins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 61-48 to Lincoln Southwest. While losing is never fun, Gretna East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while Lincoln Southwest is ranked 47th).

Gretna East's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Drayke Brown, who scored 14 points, and Talan Hovie who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Hawley, who scored eight points.

Lincoln Southwest was led to victory by Bj Bradford and Braden Frager. Bradford scored 18 points, while Frager dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mari Shumaker, who scored seven points along with three steals.

Gretna East dropped their record down to 4-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Lincoln Southwest, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.

Gretna East's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Elkhorn South at 7:15 p.m. on February 8th. Gretna East will be up against Elkhorn South's rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.59 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing.
