Toms River North came out on top against St. Rose on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Mariners were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Purple Roses. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Mariners this season.

Steven Nuber looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Toms River North let Jason Verderrosa and Ian St. Luce run wild. Verderrosa went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while St. Luce went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs St. Luce has posted since back in May of 2024. Vin Vergona also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Toms River North is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Rose, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Toms River North will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Purple Roses: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
