Baseball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short

After flying high against West Morgan on Thursday, Athens came back down to earth. The Athens Golden Eagles fell 7-3 to the Russellville Golden Tigers on Friday. The Golden Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Golden Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

Athens saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Walker Fleming, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Russellville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Athens Golden Eagles face off against Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Russellville, they will venture away from home to square off against Priceville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
