Softball Recap: Armstrong's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

Armstrong dropped their record down to 8-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 16-4 to the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Blue Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Trojans have suffered since April 8th.

As for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

For Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's part, Hope Grissom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Grissom has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin got a massive performance out of Emma Shelato, who went 3-for-5 with five runs and two RBI. Those five runs gave Shelato a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Acton, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armstrong will face off against Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, they will venture away from home to square off against Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
