Softball Recap: Waco Comes Up Short

Waco extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-3. They lost 15-0 to the McGregor Bulldogs. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2021.

As for McGregor, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For McGregor's part, A Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, L Hillis was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That hit was her first of the season. Clara Becknauld was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

Coming up, Waco will be taking part in a tournament against Bosqueville at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for McGregor, they will take on University in a tournament on Friday.
