Baseball Game Preview: Chula Vista Spartans vs. Mar Vista Mariners

The Chula Vista Spartans will face off against the Mar Vista Mariners at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Chula Vista is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 27th on Saturday. They lost 7-1 to Canyon Crest Academy.

Brandon Lucero was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Lucero wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Mar Vista waltzed into their match on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. That's two games straight that the Mariners have won by just one run.

Mar Vista now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Chula Vista, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-9-2.

Chula Vista might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Mar Vista in their previous matchup back in March of 2020. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
