Football Game Preview: Waverly Wolverines vs. Johnson City Wildcats + How To Watch

Waverly is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to challenge the Johnson City Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Waverly is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

Last Friday, Waverly was able to grind out a solid victory over Norwich, taking the game 30-18. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Purple Tornado are ranked 187th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waverly's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ben Shaw, who threw for 244 yards and one touchdown while picking up 12.2 yards per attempt, and Cooper Robinson, who rushed for 93 yards and a pair of TDs. What's more, Robinson posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Johnson City, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They blew past Binghamton 44-6 on Saturday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their ten-point performance the contest before.

Waverly's record now sits at 3-0. As for Johnson City, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Everything came up roses for Waverly against Johnson City in their previous meeting back in September of 2019, as the squad secured a 41-6 victory. In that game, the Wolverines amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
