Baseball Recap: Westfield Takes a Loss

Westfield extended their losing streak to 16 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-20 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Benjamin Davis Falcons. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by just one run.

Enrique Gonzalez and Kayden McNatt did some serious damage despite the final result: Gonzalez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while McNatt went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Benjamin Davis, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

On Benjamin Davis' side, the team relied heavily on Jacob Alfaro, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The Falcons are undefeated when Alfaro posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Adan Ramirez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westfield will face off against Eisenhower at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.43 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Benjamin Davis, they will square off against MacArthur at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
