Softball Recap: Southwest Florida Christian Drops Season-High Score on Everglades City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwest Florida Christian). Everything went their way against the Everglades City Gators on Thursday as the Southwest Florida Christian King's made off with a 19-1 win. The King's haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Natalie Recker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Southwest Florida Christian got a massive performance out of Candice Chime, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave Chime a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Thorne, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Southwest Florida Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .467 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Southwest Florida Christian's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Everglades City, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwest Florida Christian will head out to challenge Community School of Naples at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Community School of Naples has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something Southwest Florida Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Everglades City, they will venture away from home to face off against Seacrest Country Day at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Everglades City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.5 runs per game this season.
