Softball Game Preview: Forestview Jaguars vs. Kings Mountain Mountaineers

Forestview is 0-10 against Kings Mountain since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Jaguars will head out on the road to take on the Mountaineers at 6:00 p.m. Forestview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Forestview came up short against Crest and fell 6-1.

Olivia Hensley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Miley Skidmore made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Kings Mountain entered their game against West Lincoln on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Mountaineers fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 5-4.

Paige Fleming and Avery Cruise did some serious damage despite the final result: Fleming went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Cruise scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Kayla McSwain also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Forestview's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Kings Mountain, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 9-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Forestview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kings Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 13.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Forestview came up short against Kings Mountain when the teams last played back in March, falling 6-1. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
