Orion has gone 8-1 against Riverdale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Chargers will take on the Rams at 7:00 p.m. Orion has given up an average of 32.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Orion lost 40-14 to Newman Central Catholic on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Comets are ranked 133rd).
Orion might have lost, but man, Owen Voorhees was a machine: he picked up 61 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 107 yards on only eight carries. Voorhees' longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Riverdale, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 43-8 win over Mercer County. Considering the Rams have won three contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Orion better keep an eye on Gaege Heinsen. He was instrumental in Riverdale's win, rushing for 54 yards and a pair of TDs.
Orion's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Riverdale, their record is now 3-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Orion has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 361 total yards per game. It's a different story for Riverdale, though, as they've been averaging only 145.2 total yards. Will Orion be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Rams flip the script?
Orion couldn't quite finish off Riverdale in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 and fell 28-26. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
