Football Recap: East Alton-Wood River Oilers vs. Freeburg Midgets

East Alton-Wood River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 40-16 to the Freeburg Midgets. The Oilers lost against the Midgets in their previous head to head back in October of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-14 score last time.

East Alton-Wood River's loss came despite strong showings from Travis Skinner and Mehki Shorter. Skinner rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown, while Shorter rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown. Shorter got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 71 yards.

East Alton-Wood River wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 27-8 defeat against Roxana on the 18th. Freeburg has also already played their next game, a 33-7 win against Salem on the 18th.
