Basketball Game Preview: E.E. Smith Golden Bulls vs. Westover Wolverines

E.E. Smith has gone 10-0 against Westover recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The E.E. Smith Golden Bulls will square off against the Westover Wolverines at 6:00 p.m.

E.E. Smith is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Terry Sanford on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. E.E. Smith lost 64-42 to Terry Sanford. The Golden Bulls were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

E.E. Smith's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alonnie Baldwin - Muldrow, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 14 points and four steals, and Amy Boa, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Boa a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Cordero, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points.

Even though they lost, E.E. Smith smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Westover didn't have too much trouble with Western Harnett on Thursday as they won 40-24. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Eagles are ranked 501st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westover's win came from a few key players E.E. Smith will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dahliyana Baldwin, who posted eight points and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Soles, who had seven points.

Westover's record is now 9-7. As for E.E. Smith, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-6.

E.E. Smith was able to grind out a solid win over Westover in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 64-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for E.E. Smith since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
